Welcome to the Science of Tsunamis. Tsunamis are large waves that can travel across oceans at speeds of more than 600mph and can reach heights greater than 100 feet. They are massive mysterious beasts that can happen at anytime. The most frequent cause of a Tsunami is from earthquakes, although they can also be caused by volcanic eruptions and underwater explosions. Some artificial Tsunamis have been created through testing nuclear bombs underwater.
This site explains how Tsunamis are formed, their characteristics while traveling across the ocean, methods in place for early detection of Tsunamis, and it provides a list of famous Tsunami events.
If you know nothing about Tsunamis, an excellent page to start that discusses their formation is "How a Tsunami is Formed."
